Scott Misner
Scott is an experienced communicator, author and instructor.
He grew up on KISS. Sported red and yellow Zips sneakers. Played the
piano. And wore plenty of holes in his two-ply, colorful Toughskin
jeans.
Growing up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Scott shot so many jumpers in his
driveway he wore out his basketball hoop, replacing two backboards
and five nets before age 16 (!). Backboards were old-school then.
Solid wood … not his jump shot, though. It was silky smooth.
Today, Scott serves as chief strategist for our Idea Factory. He’ll
tell you whether you’ve got a good story, or if we need to go back
to the drawing board. Beyond just facilitating news, he generates
compelling public events and sponsorships. He’s also tempted to toss
out thought-provoking ideas from time to time. Like a college playing
its football season with no nickname, no helmet logo and no mascot to
protest an unfair NCAA mandate. Never heard such a thing? That’s
because they didn’t approve the idea – or you would’ve.
Fifteen plus years of experience and broad industry savvy enable Scott
to know a thing or two about good stories. He’s authored more than 20
advocacy articles and white papers on issues ranging from healthcare
operations to electric deregulation. One snappy master’s thesis, as
well, on the topic of civic journalism.
Fun for Scott happens each of the past five years he’s taught as an
adjunct professor in the University of North Carolina’s top-ranked
public relations department. Ask him about his students’ campaigns
– talk about great ideas.
In his free time he’s a yogi, a cyclist, and a swimmer, listens to
unpopular music, and eats no meat. No, not even chicken or fish.
After all, animals are our friends.
